Printing material is an extremely important factor, it is a decisive factor in the quality of printed products. There are many different types of printing paper on the market today depending on the purpose of use. Knowing and understanding the characteristics of each different type of printing material, you already have a part in the success of the product.

1. Types of paper 

a. Ford paper - a familiar printing material

Fort (or ford) paper is a common name in Vietnam. It is actually a Woodfree uncoated paper (WFU) with the following characteristics: Uncoated papers, so the surface is smooth, non-glare, so it is suitable for writing and writing. read; In addition, the paper is made from "chemical pulp", which has removed most of the lignin (Woodfree paper), so it is difficult to yellow over time, suitable for storage. Available in most office printing rooms and photocopier rooms.

  • Weight (g/m2):  Ford paper has a weight of about 7- to 90 grams/m2.
  • Application:  copy paper, printing paper, writing paper, book, newspaper, notebook, letterhead, envelope, note paper, notebook, invoice...

b. Bristol Paper

Is a type of board (uncoated), the surface is coated with a glossy finish. It usually has several layers of paper pressed together so it is stiff and heavy. Color is usually white. The paper surface has two types: smooth, suitable for pens and ink, or slightly grainy (vellum) suitable for pencils, chalks, and charcoal.

Paper has a slightly glossy surface. The ability to stick to ink is quite good, at a moderate level.

  • Quantity : 230 - 350 grams/m2.
  • Application:  Usually people use Bristol paper for offset printing which is quite suitable. This type of paper is used to print cosmetic, pharmaceutical, soap boxes; print flyers, posters, cards; print wedding invitations, invitations. Can do technical drawings, illustrations, projects.

c. Paper Ivory

Very high quality uncoated thick paper. My paper is hard and elastic. The surface of the paper is ivory white, with very high smoothness and gloss due to being processed through a "super calender" device.

  • Weight (g/m2):  250, 300
  • Application:  Paper has 1 smooth side and 1 rough side located on the inside of the product. Especially for printing products that require luxury: High-grade paper boxes, high-grade paper bags, business cards, menus, invitations... Ivory paper is used for food packaging, making boxes, so it will need to be tested for safety. previous food.

d. Giấy Diaper

The type of paper is coated with kaolin (or equivalent material) so the paper surface: smooth, bright, good light blocking, uniform adhesion and ink absorption. Therefore, it is suitable for offset printing of colorful images with high sharpness and contrast.
There are 2 types of paper: Gloss (glossy side) and Matt (smooth-matte side).

  • The paper has a glossy, smooth surface.
  • When printed, the image is quite bright and eye-catching.
  • When catching light, the paper is reflective, causing glare.

Weight of paper g/m2 : 100, 115, 150, 170, 200, 250, 300

Application : Paper is often used to print leaflets, posters, brochures, catalogs, magazine covers, magazine covers, book covers, calendars, catalogs, brochures, advertising posters, product labels, box labels, paper bags. …

e. Duplex Paper

Almost like Bristol paper with a white and smooth side; the other side is usually as dark as paper mache. Features thick paper, it is made by pressing 2 layers of paper. The two sides of the paper may differ in color and texture. high quantification (above 250gms). Often people use Duplex paper to print product boxes of quite large size, requiring certainty and rigidity.

  • Weight (g/m2):  170, 270, 300
  • Application:  Often used as book covers, box packaging, folders...

f. Crystal Paper

Crystal paper is a paper consisting of 2 sides: one side is very glossy, as if covered with a layer of glue; the other side is slightly rough, often used as an intermediate between Bristol paper and Couche paper, depending on the purpose required by the product.

Crystal paper has the outstanding feature that when printing on ink, it does not smudge, helping to reduce paper warping to easily turn pages when used. One side of the paper is very glossy, smooth; the other side is rough

  • Quantitative

The weight of this paper is usually in the range of 230 - 350 gsm (gsm: gram unit per 1m2), this is the appropriate weight of paper for use in printing the covers of books and magazines.

  • Application

Crystal paper is often used in the production and cover of magazines, books, newspapers, stories, etc.

g. Decal

Paper has a layer of glue on the back. The structure consists of 3 main layers. The first is a layer of paper, which is the layer to print that print. The second layer is an adhesive layer that is firmly adhered to the first layer, which has the function of connecting the print to the product surface. The third layer is a base layer, the paper layer is pressed close to the glue to protect it when not in use; When you use it, you will peel off this layer of glue.

H. Carbonless Paper

Paper is made from 100% virgin pulp, on the surface of the paper is coated with a chemical compound. This layer of compound on the bottom of the carbonless paper acts as a dye. The top of the paper underneath is covered with a layer of clay that reacts with the dye. Therefore, you will not be surprised that the content presented on the first page will be copied to the next page without carbon paper, because it is capable of self-copying as you write.

Paper has outstanding advantages such as:

  • Fast and clear display.
  • Capable of withstanding high heat.
  • High durability when printing.

Basic quantification of carbonless paper:

  • 53 g/m2 or 55 g/m2 for the first and last row.
  • 50 g/m2 or 51 g/m2 for the middle.

k. Kraft paper

This is a type of recycled paper., the paper has a rather rough surface, usually a golden brown color; can still be bleached. Craft paper, also known as recycled paper, is a durable brown paper usually made from the pulp of soft wood by the kraft process. Packaging kraft paper, or just sack paper, is a type of paper with high elasticity and tear resistance, designed for packaging products with high requirements for durability.

  • Quantities   from : 80 - 400gsm/m2
  • Application:  Kraft paper is often used to make paper bags, gift boxes, bags, food bags, envelopes, wrapping paper, lining, name cards, clothing tags, envelopes, file covers

i. PP Paper

PP paper can have an adhesive layer like decal paper or not, it is used in the digital printing industry. PP paper is better quality than photo paper. Often people use to print posters, print ads, print pictures for display and souvenir. The type of printing paper is quite cheap and easy to use.

2. Hiflex canvas

This is a specialized grade of PVC coated plastic. Hiflex tarpaulins are usually large; Used for banners, billboards outdoor advertising. The material has good weather resistance to rain and sun; not dazzling. Tarpaulin has perfect stretchability.
